With more than 50 years experience in the home industry between them, HomeOnTrack creators Janet Busby, Amy Kolb, and John Busby have been involved with every aspect of the home building and remodeling world. Their contacts within the home industry are extensive, from contractors to lenders, from tradesmen to specialists in most every component and product you find in your home. It’s their greatest wish to share their experience and their expertise to make your next home project less stressful and enjoyable and to help you create a home you’ll be proud of for years to come.
My building industry ties started more than 25 years ago when I sold real estate. This was back when interest rates were 13%, for those who remember those days! I bought my first HUD property shortly after to flip with a second one to follow (though it wasn’t called flipping then). I started in the lighting business as a consultant in 1989 and within a few years while building my own house I thought rather than buy my lights from someone else I’d start my own lighting business out of my home. A few years later I opened my retail lighting showroom – this is when Amy walked into the picture. I was very involved with our local and state builders associations, serving as an officer for both Boards. My years of working with my clients was the inspiration for HomeOnTrack – knowing there was a better way for them to work their way through their building and remodeling projects.
Janet is the “heart” of HomeOnTrack – this program is her creation. Her drive, entrepreneurial spirit and new-found technology skills have brought us to where we are today.
I have built three homes from the ground up, moved into two bare-bones spec homes and did extensive remodels on two others (one down to the studs) throughout the past 25 years. Often helping friends and neighbors after they loved the look of my homes, one offered “You know, you could get paid for doing this decorating stuff.” So began my interior design company working with existing homeowners on their remodel projects and leading those clients building new homes through that process. This is where I met Janet as her lighting showroom was my go-to source for my clients’ lighting needs. Connections through Janet and other industry colleagues brought me to serving 12 years as the Executive Director of a local non-profit Builders Association. Always looking for what wall I can re-paint next, my husband Matt and I have most recently updated our 1930s home.
Amy is the “voice” of HomeOnTrack as she is our resident writer and blogger, proofreader and interior designer.
I bring to HomeOnTrack my business expertise gained during 40 years experience at a Fortune 500 company. I held various positions, specifically associated with planning, scheduling and purchasing. My daily interactions with program management required support for large projects with extremely tight deadlines. I’ve known Janet her entire life as she is my youngest sister, though she has no problem giving me grief on occasion. Janet shared her vision of HomeOnTrack with me and I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I’m proud to bring my business background to HomeOnTrack and look forward to the program helping people through their home projects. Also, I keep Janet and Amy “on track” when the conversation leads to them reliving an escapade from their 14-year friendship. I enjoy repairing and building things in my small hobby workshop, ice fishing and spending time with my family.
John is the “level head” of HomeOnTrack – he keeps everything moving forward, takes care of business and steadily advises the creative process.
